How to un-brand a branded youtube account*

Have student log into https://www.youtube.com/channel_switcher and select their proper account (not the branded account). If it fails the first time (if it just takes you to the page saying your account is deactivated/they're still branded, type in that link again and you should see the login options. Select the proper (school) account).

If the above doesn't work you can try these steps:

  1. Go to Google.com
  2. Click you account image in the upper right, and make sure it says your school account.
  3. Click Google Account
  4. Click Manage your data & personalization
  5. Scroll down and click Delete a Service
  6. Click Delete a Service
  7. Click the Trash Can next to YouTube
  8. Click I want to permanently delete my content
  9. Click the check box
  10. Click the blue Delete My Content
  11. Type your email address and choose Delete My Content
  12. Wait one minute.
  13. Go to youtube.com and sign in using the button in the upper right.
If those options don't work, contact the IT department at ext 4529.

OUTDATED INSTRUCTIONS BELOW (does NOT work since October of 2019)

DO NOT use the following instructions

Please follow these steps to un-Brand your account.

  1. Log in to your FGSD Google account.

  2. Go to YouTube once logged in.

  3. View your channel by going to your Image for the drop down menu and select Your channel

  1. Inside of your Channel, on the left hand side at the bottom of the menu, there is a Settings option:

It will then show your Account details, the Managers and Branded Account details shows the extra detail for your YouTube Channel. This is the identifier for the problem, please DO NOT click this.

REMEMBER, you do not click on this section. Please proceed to the next step.

  1. Please click on the left menu bar Advanced Settings and select Move Channel to your Google Account or different Brand Account. If you notice, below this hyperlink, my Default Channel shows that my channel is named MsHeatherMosher which we have identified as part of this problem with the update to YouTube.

  1. Once you click Move Channel to your Google Account or a Different Brand Account it will show you possible moves that you can make. You can see my current channel is linked to the YouTube created Branded Account (MsHeatherMosher) and shows the Available Accounts related it to the school’s Google account where the name is listed.

  1. Once you select your school’s Google account you will get a confirmation box that shows that the subscribers, videos and playlist are retained. The Channel Icon and Name shows a change in the name. Click on Move Channel...

  1. You then will get a confirmation box and it will also confirm that the URL for your channel will not change.

  1. Now your account has been moved to just your Google account and it has removed the Branded Account. Now when you go to your Account details, the Managers option and Branded Account title has disappeared from my Account details.
