Adding a Printer to a Chromebook (local user)*


If your printer doesn’t appear under "Available printers to save," you can also add your printer manually.

  1. At the bottom right, select the time.
  2. Click on the settings cog .
  3. On the left, near the bottom, expand Advanced.
  4. Click "Print and Scan" on left hand side.
  5. Click on Printers
  6. Next to "Add printer," select Add printer .
  7. Enter your printer information:
    • Name: Enter any name (to make it easier to find, I suggest 2 letter school abbreviation and the room number the printer is in).
    • Address: Enter your printer’s IP address.
    • Protocol: Select AppSocket (TCP/IP)
    • Queue: This is blank/unavailable for AppSocket protocol.
  8. Click on Add.
  9. Select the Manufacturer for the printer.
    If you can't find your exact manufacturer, select Generic
  10. Select the model number of the printer.
    If you can't find your exact model, use Generic Manufacturer in step 8 and select the closest matching Model from the list (Color or Greyscale PCL6/PCL XL are the best options typically).
  11. Leave the PPD section blank.
  12. Click on Add
