Testing a Fax Send and Receive*
There are cool systems that will allow you to send a test fax to them, and with in 3 - 7 minutes, they will send a fax back to the same fax machine. This will allow you to test both SEND and RECEIVE.
Directions to test sending and receiving a fax:
- Confirm that your fax machine is powered on and that the phone line/cord is connected.
- Confirm that your fax number is programmed in to your fax machine settings.
- Note: Your fax number must match the number you entered in the fax header to receive the return fax.
- Write "TEST FAX from <insert your school name>" on a blank sheet of copy paper.
- Insert the test fax paper in to the fax machine to send.
- Send the fax to either of the following numbers:
- 1-855-FX-CANON (1-855-392-2666)
OR
- 1-888-HP-FAXME (1-888-473-2963)
- This free service sends a return fax within 5 to 7 minutes when fax is working properly.
- If a return fax is not received after 10 minutes, check fax settings and try again. You can also try sending a fax to the other available number referenced above, and see if it works when sending to the other number.
- Contact the FGSD Technology Department (helpdesk@fgsd.k12.or.us or x4529 or 503-359-2415) if you are unable to send the fax or never receive a reply fax from the test service, as the issue could then be a problem with the phone line, which will require us to contact the phone company.
